Reference: Rea, 2005
Cohort: Cardiovascular Health Cognition Study/Cardiovascular Health Study Cognition Study
Risk Factor: Statin use

Exposure Detail
The interviewers ascertained exposure information via an annual medication inventory. The investigators reported results separately for ever/never statin use, lipophilic statin use, less lipohilic statin use, current/past/never use, and duration of use. This entry pertains to results on less lipophilic statin use with a 1 year time lag.

The investigators compared incident AD risk in two groups: the group of participants who used less lipophilic statins (atorvastatin calcium, pravastatin sodium, and fluvastatin sodium) at baseline or during follow-up up to a year prior to AD assessment ("Ever used") and the reference group of participants who did not use statins or non-statin LLAs ("Never used"). The article does not provide the proportion of participants that used less lipophilic statins.

Ethnicity Detail
Caucasian participants contributed 91% of person-time.

Age Detail
Cohort members older than eighty years of age contributed fifty-four percent of person-time. The article does not provide the average age for members of this cohort.
